Dew Tour and stuff

Ive had the right dub 10 on my mind for a while and it was a big relief to get it before Dew Tour cause it was the trick i needed to lay down a solid run. Unfortunately i took a pretty gnarly crash in the pipe during practice and fucked up my shoulder. looks like i have to sit this one out. It sucks but im gonna allright in beginning of January and even though i missed the first stop on the tour im still happy about how the season have been so far.

Other than that not much to write about. Been traveling around for the last 2 months. 1 month in New Zealand and 1 month in Europe. At the moment im in Saas Fee skiing some pipe. On thursday i fly out to London Freeze.

After NZ i spent 2 days in Voss before heading out on an epic roadtrip. First stop was Oslo where i went to Field productions "Being there" which i honestly though was really great! Spent a few more days in Oslo going to the workout sessions with the Regional freestyle team. Then i drove all by my self for 22 hours from Oslo to Annecy, France. The drive kinda sucked but it was all worth it when i got there! Just meeting up with all the guys, going to (almost) all the movie premieres, party and just enjoying the nice weather.

After that fantastic weekend me, Gaute and Lars drove to Hintertux and met up with Vegard and Espen.
Park is sick and the weather have been great for the last couple of days.

In a few days i will head over to Zermatt or Saas Fee to get some pipe skiing done.

New Zealand

At the end of August i was invited to join Team Uganda on a quest to New Zealand. i never been there before but and i was super stoked to go with this crew. Check out their webpage if you dont know what Team Uganda is! http://www.teamuganda.com/

so i got down there and had a few days to get my skiing together before the NZ Open where i ended up 6th in Slopestyle and 9th in halfpipe. Stoked on that!

After the comp i spent about 2 weeks just shredding with PC and Kim at Cardrona and Snowpark and i even got to go on a heliskiing trip. Yes!

Then we chopped down some trees..

And pulled them by hand to a location where the tractor could pick it up. Next year im getting a winch!

Tried doing fishing for a living which you might think is a very lucrative business. Its not, and you dont get rich!

I also spent some time at Fonna coaching for the WHAT Camp and i had a really good time even though the weather sucked. Definitely coming back next year though. The Camp was sick! Here is Niklas posing in front of the quad on yet another rainy morning.

So after getting picked up by a Porsche at the airport, we arrived in Åre for the first day of practice. Jon have bulit this insane jump and people where going nuts. Henshaw and Williams nailed their triples and i attempted a triple 1800 which i almost landed. Looks like summer holidays came early for me this year, but im stoked on the season ive had so far this year.

After doing Frostgun and the Redbull Playstreets with an injured back, i went back to Norway to chill out for about two weeks which felt real good. Getting back to where i should be and not having to go around with constant pain was great so i decided to do the National championships in Big air at Snowstock in Kongsberg. It was a fun comp on pretty big jump and i think all the guys had a good time. I got 1st in front of Thomas Dølplads and Ole mustad.

Got an invite for the last chance qualifier here at DewTour in Snowbasin and i was very happy about that since i screwed up on the first stop in Breckenridge in December. I came out here with some mild pain in my back and stomach after crashing in park city and after i caught an edge on the up-flat box during practice yesterday i landed on my side again and it just felt like someone hitting me in the gut with a baseball bat. I was planning on doing the qualifiers today, but i bailed in the last minute cause i realized my body cant take 3 more days of beating. So im pretty tired of being alive right now after having to sit out both the WSC and the DewTour. Good news is that im doing the Frostgun invitational next week and i just got an invite for Redbull playstreets as well. So that should be fun! In the meantime i will just take another week of and try to heal.

World Champs

So after a few days in Breck the Norwegian crew went to Park City to compete in the World Championships. I was signed up for both Slopestyle and Halfpipe, and i was in good shape until i crashed during the second day of practice. I was sent to the hospital in Salt lake City to do some scans of my internal orgnas. Lucky for me nothing was destroyed, but i was unable to compete in any of the events and it still hurts like hell. Tomorrow is training day for the last DewTour stop in Ogden and i hope my body wount make me suffer any more pain in the next days.

Pipe scares the shit out of me, but its fun to try out new tricks and land them.
And then 2 weeks from now im going to Deer Valley to compete in the World Championships in both halfpipe and Slopestyle.

Andreas have been so kind to invite me and Elvis up to his place in Sudndalen known as Skibyen. For the last two nights we been tearing up the kickers and railcourse throwing dubs all directions and flipping on the rails. So far so gnar.
Still got a few days left to hang around here before heading out to the states next week. oh yea!

The Sweet Rumble.

So the Sweet Rumble was a great experience for me. Me and Sig drove 7 hours from Voss to Trysil on monday to check out the jump and hang out in Trysil. I thought the jump was really good even though almost everybody had some speed issues cause of the cold North wind. Weather was cold pretty much the whole week and both kicker and inrun was made of solid ice. Didnt rally care much about that since the landing was so smooth.

Friday was qualifications and only 16 of the 34 skiers moved on the the semi´s. I ended up on 2.place behind Bobby and was pretty stoked about that.

Saturday afternoon it was time for the semi´s where i came 1st! Damn stoked about that!! 8 riders moved on to the classic head to head format where i met fellow norwegian Andreas Håtveit. After landing my dub 12 i moved on to ski against Bene Mayr. He did a super nice and BIG dub 10 wich beat my dub 12. In Bronze finals i met up against JF Houle who just killed it with a massive dub 12. I tried go even bigger, but wasnt able to stomp it and ended up in 4th place which im really happy about!
Final results were Bobby Brown 1st, Bene Mayr 2nd , JF Houle 3rd and me on 4th

Congrats to Bobby who laid it down with his stylish dubs and bad ass landings.

After Modena i went back to Norway and the city of Oslo to join Smith and Elan on the Norwegian wintersport Expo.Had a good time there and i got to catch up a whole bunch of old friends who i havent seen for a while. After a few days in Oslo i flew down to Slovenia to visit the Elan Factory and shake some hands. I was really impressed to see this huge factory and to learn how to build skis!

After two days in Slovenia i drove to Budapest with the Elan crew

Monster had put together a huge festival in Budapest, Hungary with a monstrous construction of a in city jump ramp.
I did well in practice but had big speed issues in the final and fell on both my runs. Was not too stoked about that, but i had a really good time in this beautiful city and the parties were crazy!

Modena

First comp this season was in Modena, Italy
They had put up a pretty interesting feature. It was sort of a spine where the riders could choose to land in the corner or go over and land on the backside like a normal kicker. The jump was a part of the Italian Winter Expo and it pretty much all brands had stands and there was tons of people visiting. At the Burn Best Trick comp i ended up in 2nd place behind American

After 2 weeks in Hintertux i feel im ready to jump in to the new season. Even though i havent been skiing for 6 months before going to the glazier, i quickly got the feeling back and got to practice my dubs and right spins. Now im gonna chill at home for a week or two, before heading out to Modena, Italy for the first in-city comp this year. After that it goes all bang-bang-bang with comps and travels before christmas.

Tomorrow im going on a roadtrip with PC Fosse to the alps where the first stop will be Hintertux. We gonna take the partycruise fro, Oslo to Germany, then drive trough Germany and continue across the border of Austria. Approx a 12 hour drive. Getting back on snow is gonna be freakin great!
We will put up a few edits as we go on so hang tight. But for now...

Sometimes we get bored and we have to make our own fun. Lucky for us Anders Øvsthus, a lifeguard at the public pool in Voss, kept the area open for a few extra hours one day. We had some pretty good ideas we though, but as you can see we failed pretty hard... But we sure had fun!

Its summer and no skiing for the moment. Therefore i decided to bring my camera and film some of the other stuff we do in the summer. I got alot of footage so i split them into episodes. Here is the first one from the water ramps in jondal with Sig Tveit and mogulskiers Vinjar and Ole.It was my first day on skis after my ancle injury in March so it felt real nice to "trix" again. Its been a good season for me and i really feel i have gone further with my skiing. Now its spring and kind of dead season before the summer ski starts in a couple of weeks. Now its just time to chill and do some work home on the farm.

As season is over (at least for now) I would like to thank my Sponsors Elan, Bern, Sessions, Smith,full tilt and Bula for all the support they have given me this season.

This is an edit from when me and Ollis (filmer) Was eastbound for Kongsberg and we stopped by Andreas place in Sudndalen.
There we met up with Andreas and PK and we had a good day of skiing and playin COD in between. The park was sick as always and we all learned some new stuff on the launchrail Andreas had built.

Later that night i arrived in Kongsberg and Halvard Thon let us stay in his house together with a whole bunch of skiers.
On the comp day i was out of luck and overshot both my jumps in the qualifications and was out. However i really enjoyed watching the comp were Thomas Dølplads won with his superclean dub 10 dub mute. Also Lasse Nyhaugen impressed me alot with his dub 12`s!

Next day me and Ollis traveled back to Vestlandet for a comp in Eikedalen were i came 2. Stian Eriksen from Bergen got 1.

After that i went back home to Voss for a week and participated in the last stop of "Vestlandsmesterskapet" were i got 1. with Sig Tveit and Stian Eriksen on the positions below.

Now im in Vierli shooting with HappyPro before i go to Oslo for the national championships in Halfpipe on Saturday and Big air in Sudndalen on Sunday. On Monday Andreas will start his competition called Backyard Battle, wich im very stoked about!

Alot of stuff happening so just keep checkin in for more updates.

Hey guys. (and girls) I have not been updating my blog lately, but that does not mean nothing´s happened.

-The America trip was really fun and i got a lot of practice in the Breckenridge and Keystone parks.
I also got some really nice pics with photographer Sverre Hjørnevik. Good trip!

-After being in America for 4 weeks it was really good to get back home to Voss, Norway.
When i got home i chilled for about a week before i went to SB Playground wich is a comp in Hovden hosted by Frido Fredriccson and the guys from SB. It was a fun event and i was super stoked to win!

-The next day i went on a shoot with Chaozproductions on a huge kicker created by Emil Fossheim. After a sick session me and Gaute Silseth went to my house in Voss before we flew out to the Ausstrian Open the next morning.

-The course in the Austrian open was very tight but i liked it. Unfortunatly they had problems with wind so they had to cancel qualification on friday and do those toghether with the semi´s and finals on Saturday. It was still a lot of wind so they decided to cancel the battleship box, launchbox and last kicker, leaving only the rail on top and the one kicker. So in basic it was a big air comp wich Jossi Wells won with a sick Rodeo 450 on the kinkbox and massive dub 12 on the kicker.
Gaute Silseth got 7th with a big 1260. He was only Norwegian in the finals.
I stil had some issues with the speed and i overshot the kicker in both my runs and crashed.

Tomorrow im going back home to Norway :)

After staying 2 nights in New york, Getting to know the big city life, we flew out to Denver and traveled on to Breckenridge.
I share the apartment with Sverre, Sig, Torkel and Anders from the Jiblomtas crew, + Rasmus and Herman from Oslo.
A small culture clash, but no biggie.
Just kidding. They`re great.

The park in Breck is as it always has been, super duper great and awesome. Had my 3rd day skiing today and i tested out Freeway for the first time this year. The medium line is also great fun, good for practicing unnatty spins and to do some easy riding.

Now im just really tired (Wich the text above might have indicated) and ive gotta get up early in the morning so im shutting down.

Holidays are over, and what have you done?

I have been hitting streetrails in Bergen with Sig and Anders from the Jiblomats Crew. Together with photographer Sverre and Filmer Elias we got some pretty gnarly stuff. Norway is experiencing a very could period, coldest since 96 they say!
This means that the city of rain now became the city of snow! And that means Urban rails.

Other than that i have just been enjoying my holiday in my hometown of Voss, shredding my local resort, playing hockey and taking part of the nasty stiga snowracer events.

On the 3rd of January i teamed up with old friends and local heroes for the first annual "Ekstremdagen", Extremeday winter edition. "Ekstremdagen" have had great success in the summer, so we decided to make an winter edition.
This year we did not have too many different sports. Only hotdogger skiing and Snowracing event.

King Of Style in Stockholm is on!

Me and the rest of the Norwegian guys including Andreas håtveit, Aleks Aurdal, Fridtjof Fredriccson, Gaute Silseth, Ole Mustad and Christopher Frankum arrived in Stockholm today. We are all here to compete in King Of Style wich is a huge in-city competition.

Today was supposed to be practice time but it got cancelled due too warm weather wich equals soft landings.
So instead of practicing i picked up my camcorder and walked around just filming some stuff.

6 guys got to try the jump to see if it was working. And it was!

Even though we didnt get any practice today, 6 guys got to try the jump to see if it was working. And it was! we are all stoked for tomorrow. Here is the schedule:

The jump looks good and i think i will be able to perform well.

Hey hey.

Not much interesting going on these days. Just workin in and workin out. On Monday i will go to Geilo and team up with Sig and the rest of the Freeskier and Snowboarders from Voss Gymnas. Hopefully the snowconditions will be allright and they have some features set up for us.

I started editing another Saas Fee edit, but i got distracted and made this Tramp edit instead.
Me and Vinjar got to borrow the tramps for an hour and we had a good session there.

King of Style entry

King Of Style is a Big contest in Stockholm, Sweden were a few professional skiers are allowed to enter. In addition to this invited riders, there will be 4 more riders qualified trough a video contest on youtube.

The rules are simple: The 20 riders with the most views and ratings(good ratings) will go to a "finale" were judges will select 4 of these 20 riders that will have the chance to compete in stockholm.

I hope my edit will get my invited, but competitions are hard with many good riders.

Saas Fee is OK

On Tueasday me, Sig, Torkel, Nils and Ollis went to Saas Fee too get some snow. The first day up on the glazier we just chilled and got "comfortable" with the park and the height. By getting cofortable with the park i mean Not getting comfortable with the park, it was icy as Sigs chain.(thats what Sig wanted me to write) Here is some footie from that day.

Fonna Vol 2

So here it is!
Fonna Vol 2 just got finished for you to enjoy.

Its mostly captured in late July/early August when the snow really starts to melt down making it harder to maintain the park. HOWEVER. Emil and his crew still kept on digging so the park always was in great shape. Had some bad luck with the wheather, wich is normal for these months. Still got a few sunny days in that 2 week period. so no reason to complain.
We were having a blast!
While almost everyone else left Fonna at the end of July, Me Sig and Andreas were still up there every day shredding the park.

Tonight i leave for Saas Fee, Switzerland with the Voss gang and im really exited about getting some real winter snow again.
Will keep posting new edits rapidly! Hopefully even one before the weekend.
Train leaves from Voss in 30 minutes so i really gotta go pack the rest of my gear and head down to the train station.

This summer i spent nearly 5 weeks at Folgefonna wich is a Glacier located 1 and a half hours drive away from my hometown Voss. My good friend Andreas Håtveit let me stay in his summerhouse for this period and i had a really great time skiing and chilling in the evenings. For the first two weeks we had incredible weather and the sun was shining every day while Emil and his digger crew did an amazing job keeping the kickers and landings shaped every day.

I have a great summer lots of swimming, beach life, parties, surfing, wake boarding and working out. Now as the nights are getting longer I am thinking ahead for the new season. I am going to Juvass ski senter ( a high glacier ski resort in mid Norway) in a couple of weeks and then to Sass Fee with a bunch of Norwegians in October. So I will soon have some chance for some pre-season training.

Hi everyone, during the last few weeks I have been busy studying for my final exams before leaving school. This weekend I will have a break and go to Folgefonna summer ski senter near Voss to do a Big Air contest. I will post updates from there during the weekend, so keep tuned in.

Hemesdal May 1st Contest

Every year on the last weekend of the season Hemsedal ski resort in Norway holds a closing weekend event which includes a cool competition called the "Helly Hansen Crowd Pleaser".

I was happy to be invited and so left Voss really early around 6:30 am to drive over the mountains to Hemsedal.

The jump was not that big and the landing was a little flat but I felt OK about things and hoped to lay down well. However for some reason it did work out. In the qualification I had 3 runs and did a switch 9 on the first and hexoflips on the the other two runs. I did not land the hexoflips so did not make it to the finals, which was a little disappointing - but some days good, some days bad.

Anyway, I met up with a lot of my Norwegian freeski buddies which was good and we watched the finals together which was good to watch.

I stayed in Hemsedal over night and managed to have some good fun and laughs with Marius Kjølseth and Arild Tveit. Next day I drove back to Voss with Arild having had a great season ending weekend.

Yippeeeee! We just heard this evening that Team Norway represented by me and Elvis Harshiem won the Ambuhl Invitational which is really super great news!!

The Ambuhl Invitational is held each year in Arosa, Switzerland and most ski countries in Europe send a team to do kind of Jon Olsson Super Session type of event. This year Team Norway riders were me and Elvis Harshiem. Our filmer Aarni Toivianen who filmed the Team Norway segment is still in Arosa and it was he who just called us now with the news, so Elvis and me are stoked.

The whole event was really good fun. We arrived in Arosa Switzerland last Wednesday for the Invitational. Me, Elvis, the filmer Aarni and our photographer Rami Lappalainen who made up Team Norway shared an apartment in the same building where all the other teams were located. The other teams came from Switzerland, (2 teams), Sweden, Italy, Austira, Germany and Finland – so quite a good line up.

Andri Ambuhl did a good job setting up the features which included a true table kicker which in the same construction there was a big gap to rail and one normal big jump.

On Thursday the weather was mixed with snow, rain and sun so we made the best we could out of the day. We hit the table mostly. The days were long and quite tiring and when back at our apartment, after some food and shower, we then went through the video clips and photos and planned the next day, so it was quite busy on each day and though it was a lot of fun to do this and really a creative way of doing a ski event it was very tiring.

Friday and Saturday the weather was perfect and we got a lot of filming done. Friday we hit the big jump and then made a small kicker to jump over a nearby rail line which was a lot of fun, and made for some really good photos.

Unfortunately later we heard that one of the Italian team riders overshot the big jump and landed flat on his side and he was blacked out for nearly 24 hours. It made us all quite cautious and the orgnaisors set about trying to improve the landing which was quite sketchy earlier that day.

On Saturday Elvis and me decided to try and make something out of Arosa’s melting half pipe. We shaped one part of one side and used it as a kind of hip and spent a few sunny hours spinning some tricks and then later screwed around on a channel with a gap. The filming ended on that day and later we went to a local nightclub and had a lot of laughs with Elvis in the bar and on the dance floor, the place was packed with people as it was Arosa’s end of season party night, a really great evening.

On Sunday Elvis and me travelled back to Norway while Aarni and Rami worked on the video and photo edit in Arosa so that they would be ready to submit the Team Norway entry by the deadline on Sunday evening. And then the happy news today that we had won!!!

The whole event was really cool and chilled, no sense of crazy competition pressure, and it was great to hang out with Elvis for a few days as we don't often meet as he lives on the east of Norway and I am on the west so I was really stoked to hook up and do some good riding together. Aarni and Rami were true professionals who really did a great video and photo job which won the event for us. So I had a great time and was stoked to be on the winning team!

Håtveits Podium and Filming a Big Jump in Voss

I was stoked to come 3rd place at Andreas big air competition called "Scratch Battle". Andreas came first and my old competition buddy Stian Eriksen took second place (this time he beat me!). Anyway I was stoked to get on the podium which was a great finale for an excellent time with all the other Norwegian riders with Andreas excellent hospitality.

The next day I rushed back to Voss where we had set up a film shoot. We had great help from the skisenter who had shovelled enough snow into place around a natural landing in the ski resort. We then built up the kicker to a massive height of 6m and did some test runs and the shoot began. From Norway we had Elvis, Marius Kjølseth and Sigbjørn; from Europe Patrick Hollaus from Austria, Jussi Mononen, Matti Râtû and Roy Kitler from Germany.

At Andreas Håtviets Park Session

Yesterday I arrived at Sudndalen in Hallingdal for Andreas Håtveit’s Park Session and it has been really excellent throughout. Most of Norway’s best skiers
are here and so it is a really social, good time and we are having great fun. Yesterday afternoon we had a rail contest called the “Candy Invitational”. It was a jam session and I laid down a few tricks like switch 450 and 270 out and other stuff. Each rider who laid down got some candy placed his named jar and the rider with the most candy in his jar won. The standard here is really high so I did not come in the top three but we all had a super sick time just really enjoying hanging out with each other.

After the rails we chilled out in Andreas small hotel which has its own skate ramp and two big X-Box plasma screens. Then later we practiced on Andreas big jump which stands as the center piece of his park which is just outside the hotel. The jump which is about 16m (50ft) is easily the best jump I have hit in Norway this year.

Earlier today we had a water jump comp in the swimming pool which is at Andreas hotel jumping from a 3m jump and in between chillin in the jacuzzi which was really relaxing. Later tonight Andreas is holding a big air contest called “Scratch Battle” which is a knockout contest and the competition is tough with Norway’s best skiers here.

We chill out in Andreas excellent hotel playing X-Box and the whole atmosphere is just chilled and easy so I am really stoked to be here and grateful Andreas invited me.

Tomorrow I go back to Voss really early to get in some school and finish building the kicker for the big jump I have set up at Voss skisenter. It is for a film shoot we are doing over the coming days with Verse Productions who have flown in from Finland. Then next week I fly out to Switzerland with Elvis Harshiem to participate in the Ambuhl Invitational.

Otherwise life is busy trying to juggle school, comps and filming with almost no time for hanging out with friends, but life is really good at the moment, I can hardly believe I was stuck in boring a Swiss hospital just three weeks ago wondering if my season 2009 was over!

Yesterday, I went to a local competition in Voss called the Gjerde Invitational which is held each year at my local ski resort by a well known freeskier in Norway called Christoffer Gjerde.

The main feature was a big corner which we had been building over the past week. The weather was great, beautiful blue skies and tons of sunshine and the line up was good, at total of 18 guys competing in the qualifications.

I was not sure how I would do because I was only just coming out of my recovery time from my recent head injury and thought I might have to play safe. The judges were Kenneth Lillemoen, Mattis Forthun both known on the scene in Norway so you had to impress them and the sun was quite strong and so the landing was soft which made it difficult for us all. However, as the qualifcations round got underway my skiing was going well and I managed to get selected for the final 8 for the finals.

The finals format was 4 hits on the corner with the best two of your four hits counting toward your final result.I laid down a mix of flatspin 450s and cork 810s. Luckily, despite the warm snow I was getting a lot of speed and going high, so I had a lot of air time to get my flatspins done. My head was feeling fine so I was pleased at the way things were going and I think this gave me confidence to lay down as best as I could.

Admittedly the line up was not as strong as in previous years as this year's Gjerde Invitational was unfortunately clashing with the Åre Freeski Open which was part of the Jon Olsson event and a lot of Norway's best jibbers were there. So mainly I was up against the best riders in west Norway who stayed to do this comp. But that was tough enough as there were some pretty good riders on the list like Stian Eriksen, Bjørnar Kamøy and Arild Tviet, so it was no easy run. Anyway, in the end I was judged the winner which totally amazed me and I was really stoked!

First prize was a pair of skis and 5000 kroner (about $1000), which I really need!

Unfortunately after the results I did a lap of honour jump and landed too deep and my knee whacked my chin, which kind of was a punch to my just repaired head, so I thought it would be best to chill in the evening so skipped on a big celebration. Anyway, considering my condition only two weeks ago - knocked out in a Swiss hospital for 3 days and not sure if that meant a season shutdown for me - I was really happy at my performance yesterday. So, I guess I am back riding again !! Yippeee!

Well i went out to party last Thursday night (see blog post below) as I promised myself but it did not end so well. After leaving the bar I had a fall and had to go to hospital.

I spent a while in hospital and now I have to chill for a couple of weeks. All this meant I missed my qualification for the halfpipe at Euro Open, which sucked.

I am much better now and looking forward to returning to Norway tomorrow (wednesday).

When a comp is held at a place called "Crap" the judging will be...

I got up really early today and rushed up the hill to my qualification for slopestyle along with Sigbjørn Tviet and Gaute Silseth at Crap Sogn Gion the name of the place in Laax where the competition is based. The wind was strong and this made doing our usual runs a little difficult.

In the end Sig could not do his run because of the wind but Gaute and me laid down really strong runs – SO we were totally SHOCKED – to get:

me 12th place

and therefore not qualifying even though one of the riders who did qualify fell on his run - WTF!???? Really bad judging.

Of course a lot of riders who do not make it in competitions blame the judging, but this was really bad. To sum it up, as Andreas Håtveit said about our bad judging: “this is why I do not do the European Open, this is the first and last time I am here” – enough said.

I then spent an hour training in the half pipe ready for my qualification round for the halfpipe and despite the wind being really higher I felt quite good but then they cancelled the qualification because the wind had got too high. So me and fellow Norwegian Halvard Thon do our qualification early on Saturday.

The good news is that Norwegians Fridjof Fredricsson, Vegard Øye, Halvard Thon and Elvis are in the finals tomorrow, so I wish good luck to them.

I felt a little down about the bad judging today but… I then realised I have no finals or qualifications to run tomorrow which means… I can party wild and crazy tonight and it begins with free drinks at the Riders Welcome party tonight at 9,YEAH!!!!

European Open - Laax Wed 18 Mar

kl 18:15 I have got to rush to a riders meeting in a minute, so here is quick update, but check in later and I will be uploading some more pics and video clips!

I arrived here last Friday and the weather has been great. I am staying with two great guys, the Swiss skier Elias Ambuhl who has been a great host and who is also competing in the Euro Open. I did a little filming with Verse Productions and today was I ready to lay down in the qualification heat. However the wind picked up quite strong by the afternoon and so my heat (including Norwegian riders Sigbjorn Tviet, Guate Silseth) was postponed until tomorrow morning.

There have been a lot of complaints about the course out here. This is the line… They have a flat box at the top followed by two quarter pipes, (more like a mini pipe as they rest opposite each other), then the drop down to a 3 jump line and an odd C rail at the end. Only the second jump is good enough to do anything decent on and not many guys like the quarter pipe idea. However, I am hoping things will go OK tomorrow, my planned run is:

Slide on the flat box (chilled hit)
900 tail on the right qtr pipe
alley oop flatspin 540 on the left qtr pipe
cork 9 tail on the first jump
hexoflip
switch 9 nose mute

and I am really hoping I get enough speed to do my hexo on that second jump!

Tomorrow is also the halfpipe qualification so I have been training today on my run.

Norwegian Riders Update

Fridjof Fredricsson and Vegard Øye and Elvis Harshiem qualified for the finals on Friday so that is great news.

Unfortunately PC Fosse hit the knuckle during training and has a suspected broken thumb and so had to bail out of the qualifying. Marius Kjølseth, Ole Mustad, Lars Haakon Hafsdal and Ketil did not manage to qualify despite doing really well in training yesterday, so cred’ to them.

Back from Japan

01:30 am Wed. I have just got in the door back from a week in Japan where I did the FIS halfpipe comp. I actually did not expect to go to Japan but at the last minute, the whole thing was arranged very quickly and thanks to some guys at Voss Freestyle Klubb and at Skiforbundet i managed to jump on a plane the day after my Sogndal comp, so I was stoked to be on the way.

I unfortunately did not qualify for the finals, missing the qualification by just two places. My run was:

I think I lost some points because I did not get as high as the others but the competition was tough with all the best names there like X-Games 09 winner Bertoni, Collomb-Patton, Jossi, Justin Dorey etc. It sucked to miss finals so narrowly but pleased I laid down nicely, no falls, and even just to get this far without a local halfpipe to practice on still suprises me!

On the rest of the trip I took advantage of having a decent pipe to ride in and I worked on my 10s in the pipe and now I am pretty happy at how i run those. Later, I chilled with the Norwegian Mogul team and watched their finals which was great and of course watched the halfpipe finals with the podium ending like this:

At the weekend I went to a small contest in a town in west Norway called Sogndal where they were holding a winter mountian festival which included a big air contest. The weather was a little grey and the jump was not too big but it was good enough to do what I wanted. I was up against a good rider, Stian Eriksen, and I was not sure how it was going to go as we approached the finals, but in the end I was lucky and landed my switch 900 mute perfectly and was judged the winner, so i was totally stoked!

I walked off with 4000 kroner ($600) which was a nice day's work! YEAH!

I have just come back from an excellent month in the USA. Me and some friends from home spent a month in Colorado skiing the best parks in the world at Keystone and Breckenridge. This is the second year I have done a month in the states and like last year was super stoked to be there. The highlight was doing my hexo at Breckenridge, check it out above and tell me what you think!
